going to coin a term

for the phenomenon where influencers with big platforms share stories about red-state Idahoan backwardness and oppression without speaking to any Idahoans. (Please God, please cue ****** retweeting a quote from an Idahoan.)

Exhibit A, this piece about the “particular [TOTALLY ABSTRACT] cruelty” of Idahoan abortion laws: “In Idaho, for instance, it’s clear that professors are not allowed to provide their students with moral or material support in seeking an abortion. But it’s not clear whether they are able to teach about abortion in a frank way, teach materials that address abortion, publish academic articles that are supportive of abortion, or provide accurate historical, legal or medical information about abortion.” (source)

Nor is it clear whether any Idahoan women at all were consulted for this piece.

Really, I just think it’s kinda funny that a state with not-even 2 million people, total, and zero national influence (other than the farms, which are routinely ignored) finds such traction among leftist writers. In tweets, it sort of makes sense because what about tweets isn’t superficial and click-baity, and Idahoan idiocy is always a great source for that.

But the long-form pieces for global news sites that at least appear to rely solely on public memos, that might not be based on any quotes from local people? Jesus. Please god, let me be wrong! Or let it be that the author follows this blog! Great work Ms. Donegan! Go ahead and use us, just, you know, actually use us!
